Agreed, small plastic line and you can use a saddle valve to attach to just about anything and the tubing is easy to run, even if you have to run it up one wall, through the attic, and down the other.

I don't think it's worth trying to remove the ice maker in your fridge now, as it is probably tied into the electronics and valves in your LG, and just seems silly to trash a brand new fridge. However there is probably an ice maker kit for $100 that will fit your freezer in the garage. This page even lists "generic icemaker" which sounds promising and is probably low-tech enough that you could mount it on a piece of wood and hack together the wiring...
