I have used both, I think the water based looks better and is more durable, the only downside is it takes twice the number of coats, I had to do 6 coats to match 3 coats of oil. It has no toxic odor which is a real plus if you are living in the house at the time. I have 2 good sized dogs and the floors done with oil based show a lot more scratches than the water based.

After 7 years our dining and living room floor still look great with normal traffic and one black lab. I used Behr water based and did 6 coats over a 12 hour day, no smell, looks like skim milk when you apply it, dries in about 90 minutes
