Yeah, weak line or a cracked guide cutting the line...or both.
Pretty standard set up is 45 lb lead core. Most put on 10 colors, or 100 yds, on top of some backer. I like maybe 6 feet of 40 lb mono or floro leader Take six inches or so of the lead core out of the line, slide the leader up inside the sheath and tie a half hitch that catches both works for me.No doubt there's a youtube on how to do it. Tubes you definitely need a high quality snap swivel.
Plain old ring guides are fine, the tip as well.
You let out how many colors for how deep you want to fish. Having lead core in the guides while fishing will not harm the line or the guides.
