For what you are talking about I think the
Okuma Cedros rods would be good,
Diawa BG for the reel, (great reel for the money) Unless you want better water seals cause you are hard on them.... then the Penn spinfisher or Shimano stratic would be a good choice.

Star Rods are good also. But I really like the Okuma since it has a full metal reel seat, The plastic ones also seem to give me issues with working loose just when you get that nice fish on.

For what it is worth, I catch AJ on a BG6500 with the okuma rod. If it can handle that, It can handle anything you are thinking of.
