I'm not mr super experienced bottom fisher but when switching from mono to braid, My kids and I catch more fish. We can feel the fish as well as the sinker on the bottom easier. Heck, Son #3 is still using a cheap $20 Walmart rod that is 5 years old and I re spun it with 20lb braid (just to prove a point to my other son) and it makes a noticeable difference. These are spinning reels.
I however use an Avet SX and was thinking about adding some floro onto the top

I have some rods I use for casting on the surface and they are all mono though

One thing I will say I don't like about braid vs mono, If you get 2 lines tangled up, I might as well cut it. Mono will be easier to untangle. I have guests often and that is just inevitable.
