It amazes me that people still use mono in general. I have a friend that still uses mono on his light spinning outfits, like 3000 series inshore spinners. I also know another guy that puts a "topshot" of mono on his bottom fishing rigs, his topshot is 100yds and deeper than the water we fish so he is essentially fishing with 100%mono. The only thing I own that still has mono on it is my trolling rods, don't remember the last time I used mono on a casting reel but I vaguely remember that is sucked.

My bottom fishing rigs are done like a couple of guys have already mentioned braid with 20' or so of mono or floro depending on my application. Sometimes the mono/floro goes straight to a jig, sometimes a weight, swivel an additional piece of floro finished with a hook.
