To the OP, again thanks and much gratitude for your Dad’s service and sacrifice.

Many good points about Venice made here by others. One thing newcomers do not understand is truly how big and wild the River really is. I am not familiar with the waters y’all typically fish, but the River can throw big (sometimes unseen) rogue waves at you from ships and other commercial traffic, floating logs and debris, not to mention the many rock weirs and jetty systems and changing sandbars in main channels that, unless you have local knowledge, can ruin your day. That said, it is a wonderful place to fish and especially in the fall when the river flows diminish and the river clears up. Good luck and stay safe.
