First of all thank your Dad for his service. Greatly appreciated and not taken for granted. In terms of Venice with a 22ft boat. A lot is going to depend on 1) your experience with Venice and the lower Manhattan river delta in terms of navigating etc. I like to say, itís requires PHD level navigation and boat handling skills.
2) your experience offshore fishing for tuna in general.
If both of the answers for this are limited to none, I would recommend doing research on finding a captain in Venice with a large enough boat to handle your dads needs and the run offshore in various weather conditions. If you are determined to give it a shot, I would recommend leaving out of grand isle since it has no river to contend with. Most often tuna are caught this time of year and later out around the floaters rigs. Mahi should be relatively plentiful around the weed lines and color breaks. Good luck and let us know how you do.
