I had one with Nextel, it worked fine and in most areas. Nextel was bought by sprint ( I think). I no longer have it as I do not travel now.

One thing I will mention is, buy them an inverter to power the laptop with as they drive... I turned my lap-top on of a morning, logged in and would stay on-line all day.

I also had the GPS Kamper mentioned. It works any where. I did find I lost signals some when I was downtown between tall buildings. As kamper said, the screen is large enough to see.
