Basically...

The 1242xsv is a single band traditional CHIRP unit...and only 1 transducer port. ( 12 pin) ..Traditional CHIRP or Side scan...but not both connected at the same time.

The 7612xsv is a single / dual band CHIRP unit....and has 2 transducer ports..( 8 and 12 pin) you can use a single band Traditional CHIRP ducer ( 8 pin port) and also a side scan ducer ( 12 pin port) ..at the same time.
Or... you can use a dual band Traditional CHIRP ducer into the 12 pin port...( no side scan when doing this)

Both the 7612xsv and the 1242xsv have preloaded US Coastal and Inland lakes and rivers charts.
The 1242xsv has the newer G3 charts, and is available in a keyed or touch version.

The 7412 has the same sonar capability as the 7612xsv but it does not have preloaded maps.

In addition ...

The 8612xsv replaced the 7612xsv.
The 8612xsv has 3 transducer ports...for built in support for Single/ Dual Band Traditional CHIRP, Sidescan,Ultra High Definition and LiveScope (LVS 12)
