Lately, I've been getting calls where a voice answers as soon as I say "Hello?". The voice says "Hi! This is Frank Weller. Can you hear me?" I've been responding with things like "peanut butter" or "Chevrolet" and the voice responds "Good! Glad to hear it!". It's a simulated voice that sounds very much like a real human, but is unable to deal with non sequitur responses. Eventually, the telemarketers will be assaulting us with calls completely driven by good artificial intelligence engines. Screwing with those will be a lot less satisfying than messing with a real person. OTOH, you could get your own Jolly Roger AI voice simulator and let the AI caller talk to it for as long as you're willing to tie up your phone.
