To start off with i have a Lowrance HDS 9 Gen2 Touch and Icom 412 VHF
So the other day I receive a distress call on my VHF. I Looked down to see if any position or information popped up on my HDS. After a minute of not seeing anything i heard the CG chime in on 16. The next day I got looking at my nmea 0183 connection and noticed that it looks like it's set up to only send time and position from the gps to the vhf. I guess this would be good if I ever needed to hit the distress button but it is my understanding that the vhf can also send info to the gps as well (possibly show coordinates of a incoming distress call).
Am I correct in thinking the icom can do the above mentioned in the event of another emergency call? If so how should the 2 be hooked together?
What I have now is my vhf red running to the gps yellow and the vhf red shield to the gps shield and both them running to common ground on fuse block.
Using the below images of the gps and vhf diagrams please let me know if this sounds correct.
VHF RED to GPS YELLOW
VHF RED SHIELD to GPS BLUE
VHF WHITE to GPS ORANGE
VHF WHITE SHIELD to GPS GREEN
Also what's the RS-232 and RS-422 difference?

Thanks for any helpful information guys.
