Tried a chain and a belt and the belt did much better but continually had issues on the reel gear. I guess out of frustration with numerous other issues popping up I ended up with an LP1200. Maybe in the future I will revisit this but for now I want to fish.

Now I just need to learn how to catch swordfish

You're not alone. Many have tried alternate routes to getting a good Deep Drop reel (i.e. we wasted our money on the Daiwa Beastmaster) but end up with the best, an LP1200.
