My first boy at 44 had a similar effect! I had given up smokes and dope to snare my wife and booze was the last thing left. Didn't stop cold but no big nights and plenty of days off. Went to a three day work conference recently, went fairly hard for two nights at the free bar (no blackouts or anything but a bit wobbly) and was shocked at how sleazy I was each day. If you can manage the transition to casual and occasional drinking good for you but I am sure I would't have without the kids. Go for it!
