I owned a BMW diesel. 335d . Great engine, but I strongly recommend getting an extended warranty and getting rid of it before it is up.

At the mileage you are looking at is when some of the issues start to pop up. eg problems with the urea injection system (crystalized urea) which puts the car into limp mode requiring a dealer visit, carbon build up in the intake due to egr, higher miles dpf troubles can start.

I was very active in the BMW diesel forum so aside from my personal experience i got a sampling of others troubles.

These engines like to be run and run hard.

if it were not for all of the EPA emissions nannies the 3.0 l would be damn near a perfect engine, super torquey, quiet, and very efficient.
