Took my mixed breed about 4-5 hits before she realized where she could and could not venture on our property. Matter of fact, one time she and 2 neighborhood dogs that hang out here with our dog tore out in persuit of a coyote out back in the woods. While in hot persuit, she got to her line in the sand and stopped as the other 2 kept up the chase. She has lots of respect for that wire. Also, there is a sensitivity adjustment which controls how close she can get to the wire before it stings her and an intensity adjust for controlling the strength of the shock. I think it can go high enough to cause a fur burn if set on high! Right now and since it was installed, I think both adjustments are somewhat in the middle of their range.
