I bet your grandfather was fascinating.

Italian house wine is some of the best stuff on Earth...one of our favorite travel experiences was a few years ago eating cicchetis in Venice across from where they built the gondolas, and drinking glasses of their house red for 1 euro. Just amazing.

Italy is by far my favorite place that I've traveled to...and I think I liked Naples the best.

OP, I'll second the Rick Steve suggestion. You really can't go wrong going to a small place in Tuscany.
