Anyone fishing the big Coho Derby this weekend ? FISHNG1 ??? I am pre-fishing this week and planning to fish the Bush Pt area. Fishing has been a bit slow in the Sound but with this rain the COHO will be coming in.
I'' be on 68......FISHTALE 2802 Trophy w/ twin 250 Zukes....
With a any luck I'll get out both days...I was at the Ballard locks today and there were some big, but beat looking , hooknose Coho in the fish ladder. A buddy fished right out of Shilshole all day yesterday for nothing.. This year has been so odd that maybe these fish I am seeing in the the locks are just the start of a run of good size fish..
Going to point no point tomorrow and maybe Wednesday. I talked to Georges up in Sekiu yesterday and they have been having fun up there. Good luck in the Derby
I fished Edmonds sat, one nice 10# hen, @ 67' grandslam 32" behind red hotspot. partner remote released another MUCH smaller fish, pretty sloooooooooooow. Fish checker at Shilshoe had 15 fish for 60 anglers when we quit.
I am getting a lot of reports of really slow fishing. Tom Nelson from SalmonUniversity just called and said he fished 6 hours yesterday (BUSH PT) with nothing of size to report. PT Townsend area has been super slow. Possession is full of doggies . I am going to pre-fish Friday. This rain has got to push em in ! I'll bet it turns this weekend and the winner will be a whopper 23 pounder !
A friend was out today at Posession and in front of Edmonds and they got skunked..They did get 2 nice Blackmouth at Posession they released and did have trouble with doggies..
I hope they don't just run up the rivers and bypass us.
Siv,
I was down at Outdoor Emporium this morning picking up some gear for Mexico next week. All reports are SLOWWWWW fishing. Some are thinking what you are thinking........the hooknoses beeline it for the rivers. Just need to intercept a couple of big hungry ones !
Hello Spud, I have been busy with the ocean as you probably know. We were headed out Tuna fishing out of Ilwaco this last Saturday, but my 04 F-350 quit running three miles from the launch. I had to have it towed to Astoria Ford until Monday, they found a faulty wiring harness. Had to leave my boat in a grocers parking lot and rented a truck to tow it back four hours away. We never got after the tuna, but am planning to go this Sunday, so no go on the coho. Have to get rid of all that fuel in the boat , but then again they have been calling for 9 to 11 foot swells. Put a few feet of wind chop on that and It is ugly.
Talk to you later, have fun in Mexico, is Ponytail going too.
Steve

Bummer news on the truck. Always something it seems. Big party at Ponytails Saturday night. You should make it happen ! We are all headin out the following Saturday, first to Cabo and then to East Cape for the tourney. I plan on bringing this weekends Derby cash !
Well,
Pt No Point to the south tip of Whidbey and the north end of Hood Canal were all dead. We ran into a huge school of baitfish with an equally large school of dogfish right underneath. We tried all our best tricks. At the ramp we ran into a couple of net fishermen who didn't have much to show for their efforts either. So we drove up to Sekiu on Wednesday. Lots of Boats up there. We tried trolling all over up and down and hooked plenty of shakers and a few decent fish that we weren't able to land. The radio chatter and dockside chat was the same story from most other folks as well. There were plenty of targets on the fishfinder but they mostly turned out to be the smaller fish.
I've been fishing the Alsea for the past two weeks. It's still really slow. The water's really warm still in the rivers, 59.7 this morning. We need not only rain, but cooler temps. The salmon don't like the warm water. There's some catching going on, but it's really slow. They're sitting down in the holes and outside the bar. I'd say the best catching is still back trolling the bars (Jaws in Waldport) The fish are obviously waiting. I gotta leave in two days, I'm afraid I'm too early this year.
