I just moved to this area and wanted to know which marina you would prefer to launch your boat from if you have used them before. Is there anything especially I should be aware of? Do they both have washing down stations? I will first cruise the general vincinity, but eventually and ultimately I will cruise to check out the Channel Islands. Do you think my little Trophy can make a trip to the islands? If you have any useful info about boating to Channel Islands, please post.

An 18 is pretty small to think about the islands although I have done it a few time in a smaller whaler.

I think I would prefer to be in Hueneme as it is a little closer to Anacapa and a lot closer to the inshore drift halibut fishing off Magu Rock an points farther south.

The channel gets very rough almost every afternoon.

I've launched out of both harbors many times. I currently keep my 28' Whaler in a slip in Ventura since it's closer to where I live. I think Channel Islands is by far a nicer place to launch. They have washdowns that you can use to flush your engines where as Ventura has washdowns, but not allowed to flush your engines as it makes too much noise. The draw back is it is a longer run out of the harbor from CI vs. Ventura plus a shorter run like Bullshipper says.
I use to take my 21 Whaler cc to the Islands regularly. Just need to watch the weather. The channel can get real nasty in a hurry.
