Default BOAT TUBE question for so cal

Anyone know any lakes around so cal that you can actually bring a ski tube? Just looking to cruise the kids around no high level jumping ! LOL All the lakes i have been checking they only allow skis or wakeboards.. Also what about like inside the the breakwall around long beach? Is it Legal and safe enough in the ocean? Any tips are appreciated..Thx

In the ocean is iffy - depend on where. There's Marine Stadium in LB - small and crowded. The ski basin at Mission Bay - crowded , but a lot more open than Marine Stadium.

Some areas in LB, particularly near the breakwater separating LB harbor from Alamitos bay stay pretty flat and could work for you.

Also Lake Elsinore and Perris Lake.

Thats exactly the trouble im having.. Lake Elsinore and Perris Lake along with another dozen local lakes do not allow any type of tubes..Only ski or wakeboards..Its so weird and they sell dozens tubes in every sporting good store around here... Its a shame cause the kids really love it... any other ideas? Thx again for your time

That is weird - I don't do lakes myself, so all I know is what shows in the CA Boating Guide.

What about Silverwood?

Went through the Mission Bay ski basin yesterday (without skiers in tow - just crossing to the De Anza Cove launch ramp) - What a crazy mess that was. Even with a lot of LEOs present people were just nuts - too crowded and too many clueless.

I was worried about collisions WITHOUT having someone in tow.

Have you inquired at the stores that sell tubes about locations where one might use them?

I have asked the sales reps at sportschallet-big5 and sportsmart none have been able to direct me to anyone or anywhere that knows. There has to be a lake or not shark infested waters for a family to have fun..

Lake Castaics web site says they allow it there: http://www.castaiclake.com/regulations/boating.htm

Looks like Silverwood does too: http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=23467

We tubed my kids one time outside the Long Beach Breakwall it was a blast! The water inside the breakwall is so nasty I'd pass on that. If you go early the water should be nice and your kids will have a riot. Observe the current and you want to give yourselves lots of room around the rocks of course.
