Default Neah Bay

Well we loaded up on the butts at Neah Bay. It was A bit lumpy on thursday. We were 20 miles out and we were boarded by the game department!! Friday we were boarded twice, saturday 20miles out they were on another boat south of me and I finished my drift and ran back to start over and didn't see any more of them. The wind was blowing us along fast enough that we were using two 3# ball to stay on the bottom! anybody else make it out there?

You must have been getting tossed around a bit..the weather report was not that great. How big were the fish?

Blue Dot? Swiftsure ? I gave up going out there this early due to the weather and now get Canadian tags and go in July/August.

Never been checked up there..what were they looking for? Extra fish ? I mean it would be hard to imagine anyone putting in all the effort to head up there in May, battle the weather and NOT buy a license.

yes they were checking for fish and to see if your card was punched. The card says you only have to punch 5-13 but I guess the regs say you must record all. Yes it was a bit bumpy had to take the covers off and wash the salt off the inside of the 250 suzuki's. I don't know why but I loved it out there I guess I feel the challenge. They did find A 28' trophy like mine with 10 butts in the box and A bunch of fillets stuffed away. The FBI was even involved in that because halibut are A federal fish. glad i'm not in his shoes. my biggest was A 44# AND IT TASTES GOOD!!

I know what you mean about the challenge of dealing with the elements and making it back with your fish...I can be exciting but after years of it I have come to appreciate and enjoy the comfort of running out 20 miles on flat water.

It must have been fun trying to tie up with the fish cops in 7 foot swell and and 3 foot wind chop. Hope they didn't beat up your boat.

Also been there with the 6#s of lead. Switched all my halibut gear to 50 # spectra and can usually get down with 24 ounces , even in moderate winds and current.
