Your question brings back memories of catching those hogs on the backside of Catalina (west end) after staying up all night brailing squid on the front side. The only thing I miss about California is the fishing . . . oh, and the grungy little mexican restaurants I used to frequent.

Hey, Tom;

Do the WSB come up to Monterey in any kind of numbers? I always thought the Channels were the place to get them.

Just curious;

Some of the usual spots in So Cal are holding WSB.

Lots hitting now south of Ensenada. Seems like the planters are staying there year round.

Point Loma or Mission Bay is a good place to start checking first. Dana Point? Western Outdoor News used to post fish counts for the Northern and Southern California hot spots.

People are getting some out off Catalina Is. in the early morning on live squid, but it is still hit or miss. Nothing really heating up along the coast from Newport Beach south, but it is early in the year.

With the large amount of squid being observed both off the islands and along the coast, it is looking good for the spring fishing for WSB. Also, homeguard yellowtail are occasionally being caught, so this is also looking good for the spring and summer. With the reported La Nina ocean condition, we may see less exotics this year, but that is never a sure prediction.

Look on this website under "Private Boaters Fishing Reports" for some recent reports. http://www.allcoastsportfishing.com/forum/dcboard.php
