Default Barging boat from seattle to Ketchikan

I've heard that its cheaper to barge a boat from Seattle to Ketchikan than to take it on the ferry if you want to take your boat up to AK to go fishing. Anybody ever do it ?

If it's trailerable and Ketchikan is your destination the cheapest and easiest way is to tow it to Prince Rupert BC, launch there and make the easy 60 mile run.

Chaps has it right....My company ships a lot of freight to Alaska by barge and it is not cheap...but neither is the ferry. For barge rates contact Northland or AML in Seattle.

Good Luck.

Chaps is right it would be the cheapest ,but its 1000 miles from Seattle to Prince Rupert and actually 82 miles to Ketchikan from there. You cross Dixon Entrance that can be pretty rugged if the wind and tide are going the wrong way! A couple years ago I came across there and got caught in 50 knot wind 14 ft wind waves Made for a long ride to get to Dundas Island for protection and spent the night

Great trip ,beautiful rugged country, but be prepared
