Default Halibut and Chinook fishing around Sequim?

I have a good friend (boatless) in the Sequim area. I live down in Oregon and have 24' boat. Is there any good halibut or Chinook fishing around Sequim when the seasons are open? How about boat put-ins? And is there any fishing other than Sockeye in Lake Washington?

I can't comment on the King fishing around Sequim but I can tell you the season will be rather limited. There is a decent Halibut fishery at Port Angeles which is just up the road and there are good ramps and marinas in both PA and Sequim. Halibut opens around the first of May and will run for a couple months. A buddy of mine caught a 95 pounder up there 2 years ago.

While this past year was somewhat slow for salmon in all of the Washington waters, we have had some very good years of late for Kings and Coho in Puget Sound. I live in Normandy Park ( South of Seattle ) and in 2002,3,4 we were getting limits of Kings right here in the sound on a regular basis. The fishery has taken a definate upturn since the 90s.

The Lake Washington Sockeye thing is a kind of bonus. Fun when it happens but not anything to count on.

Siv is on target. Sequim has some varied opportunities, esp w a 24' and some sense of adventure. I have caught NICE Kings right off the Dungeness Spit light....PA to the west has decent Hali as covered. Hein bank out of Sequim along w banks to E provide a mixed bag in decent weather and as mentioned - IF OPEN. Midchannel Bank in Port Townsend is a good producer of Salmon. Discovery bay, Diamond Pt and Protection Island area between Sequim and PT can provide decent blackmouth fishing in Winter. Do a search for the Discovery bay salmon derby, which is Feb 18-20 this year - that might get you started. John Wayne marina in Sequim provides excellent temp moorage and a super ramp, decent parking.

Best of luck

!@#$#@!, forgot to comment on Sockeye fishing in LK WA..it is a Hoot and Zoo and COMBAT...we got 14 in 3 hours on Opening day last time it opened..what was that 2004??? So, while it's great when it happens, do not count on it..it also lasted 2.5 dazes as I recall.....
