Hi ...This one is for the Washington guys and regards fishing for Kings at Neah Bay. We have been going up there the last week of July/first week of August for the past few years and have had some great trips. All the Silvers you could want, great botttom fishing, and with Canadian tags, nice limits of Halibut. What has been missing is much success with Kings. I have seen a fair number on the dock and we have put a few in the boat but not with any consistant success. I hear Umatilla reef produces and this past year the guys were going out to Blue Dot but that is a bit far for me.
Suggestions..??
Thanks in advance.
By the way, I attached the weather reort for up there for this week. Just a tad rough.
Dave

Siv ; We saw a lot of Kings taken at blue dot the last couple years, but they were mostly white Kings. Umatilla Reef is a good producer, and if they are off the bite you can load up on Sea Bass at Flattery Rocks I dont think I want to be out there in 6' wind waves with 18 ' swells though.
Dave: rough but nothing like has been pounding OR for the last week - witness the missing CB pilot..
You are right on, there is certainly a BIG mixed bag avail at Neah. I have fished Kings there w good results.. but around the corner - 1/2 way to LaPush. For whatever reason, I have done mo better at Sekiu between Slip and Pillar. I fish that same time frame but far N of there - almost to Brooks Penn on WCVI.
Thanks guys...The spot you are talking about JD is probably Umatilla Reef - it is about halfway to La Push. I fished Sekiu for years and caught a lot of Kings but with all the closures in the late 90s we started to go to Neah Bay for the bottom fishing and Halibut in case the Salmon season closed.
Just curious Greg, how are these guys fishing Blue Dot for Kings.? Trolling, mooching? I can do both but prefer to mooch.
I spent alot of time at Neah Bay Last summer. From myexpirience 2005 was not a common year at all. There were unusually highsea temps and the kings were holding way offshore in deeper water thanI've usually ever fished. We saw lots of pelicans and from talking tolocals that only happens when the temps are very warm. (It did make forgood tuna fishing though). I started to talk with some of the nativecommercial guys and they generally are helpfull to point you towardsthe fish. The fish were holding way out until late Sept / Early Oct.The commerical guys I spoke with fish the same way I do - with ahotspot flasher and hoochies. They run their hoochies on longer leadersthan I did - about 40" -48" and slow was the name of the game. 50Fathoms / 300'. Look at the smaller commercial boats and look at theirdownrigger balls- all 15 pounders to keep it on the bottom. I'm sorry idon't have a chart here right now but they were fishing way outside ofBlue Dot. I caught one nice one at Blue Dot. Later in the season thefish were being taken right off the rocks at Wataach Point. Go S. fromCape Flattery and stay tight to the rocks. The folks at Big Salmon arevery helpful in letting you know where the fish are if you ask them. Asfor Umitilla reef the Coho were off the hook there last summer. Thebait was thick and getting fresh herring was pretty easy. Hope to see you there this season!

Thanks Todd..we will be there the last week of July and hope to get into them. Always do well up there on something ( Silvers, Halibut, Lings..) and really love fishing there.
