Sprockets

I was in LA a couple of weeks ago for a business meeting but didn't have much free time. I have to go again the first week in December, but I'll have a full day (Sunday the 6th) of free time. I land at 9am and plan to rent a car.

I'll be staying in the Santa Monica/Marina del Rey area and looking for ideas. I know LA is a huge city, but I can't get excited about city stuff or looking at movie star houses. I'd rather check out some interesting outdoor areas or small towns, either coastline or mountains, and I don't mind driving.

Thanks. The Santa monica area is pretty cool, despite the homeless. The meeting I attended was at the Fairmont Miramar, which has a pretty sweet location.
