Default British Columbia Salmon Data -- Run Timing

http://fishing.fuelspace.com/salmonrun.php provides an online document containing tables showing the proportion of the annual salmon run arriving in BC statistical fishing areas each week. For example, if a table in the document says that 0.15 of the Fraser River sockeye run arrives during the 3rd week in June, it means that 15% arrived during that week.

Boaters and fishers used to take the report along with them when they went fishing.

I know it can be hard to follow when it's not hardcopy (on paper), and originally it was written for scientists, but I will try to explain:

1) First go to page 17 in the Flash document. To get there, look at the control bar on the document and replace the 1/38 with 17/38 and hit enter (or click the forward and back arrows to browse one page at a time).

2) Page 17 will explain the tables of run timings.

3) Move forward to page 18. Click on the rotate button on the control bar. The rotate button looks like two page icons with a curved arrow between them.

4) Now you should be looking at the table for Area 6 (Caamano Sound). The columns with the species names at the top show you the proportion of the run arriving in a given week.

When the proportion for sockeye is 0.1332 in week 20, it means that on average 13.32% of the run arrives during week 20. (You just multiply the proportion by 100 to get the percentage: 0.1332 times 100 is 13.32.)

The calender of weeks is on page 5. Week 20 is May 10 - 16.
