Great ocean fishing (I have an 18ft power cat, so I can't go TOO far), sport fishing like Striped Bass, Tuna, things like that if possible
Great IT job market
Beautiful women!
I've set a date of next Summer to get enough saved up to ship and move things across the country. What are some good areas for these criteria? I'm used to some of the worst traffic and highest rents in the country, so that's no problem. Ideally I'd like to be 15mins or so from the marina where I'll keep my boat on a trailer.
Santa Cruz is nice right on Monterey Bay, Silicon Valley a short commute for IT work Beautiful Women Everywhere great harbor and until just recently good salmon fishing. (1-2 year ban) Albacore tuna usually show up late June July and come within 30 miles. Rockcod, halibut Stripers typical. Right NOW an affordable housing market. Been here for 27 years. Came up from San Diego and love it.

Oh no, is fishing really that bad? If so, that's going to deflate my balloon. On the other hand, it might be nice having mediocre fishing year round vs. great fishing for a couple of months.
SF Bay and Delta plain suck. Albacore is good . . . during the summer. Rec Salmon has been shutdown . . . and oh yeah . . . you can't fish with more than one rod (per person) unless you buy a stamp to use a second rod. There are so many regulations . . . I swear they need to offer a course. Try to figure out where, when and what your allowed to gaff in the delta.
san diego has been great for years, but Mexico... oh Mexico is a great place to play.
find me a job done there shipper, LOL
You have to be in business for yourself as employees make squat.
But with 3 marinas in PV, there is lots of opportunity. Set up a deal where you can overnight parts in from the states, train a couple of $5 per hour bilingual helpers to do the heavy work under your supervision and stay after from the beer during business hours, and the customers will come.
You don't want to move to SD. Nothing here to see... move along now.
Seriously, you can't bead SD. Especially now that the housing market has dropped 25%. It's still super expensive compared to east coast prices for a decent home but other than that SD has it all. Weather, beaches, fishing (great!) and all the benefits of a big town.
8th largest city in the country so there should be plenty of IT work to be found.
Not a lot of marinas with trailer/boat storage in town but there are a few. Good luck!
I agree, go to SD. I live in Orange County. We wait and wait for the pelagic species to show up while the SD guys are getting them for months. The SD guys never travel more than 40 miles to load the boat. We have to go a minimum of 65 to 90 miles to get to the same fish and it's all uphill going home.
One advantage we have is we are close to Catalina Island. This is a great place to spend the weekend.
One more benefit of SD, you can fish the La Jolla kelp beds year round and I mean year round. 25 pound Halibut, White Seabass from 25 to over 40, Yellowtail from 12 to 30 pounds in January. The kayak fleet gets them in the Am before work. It's not far from Mission Bay harbor.
SoCal all the way. SD is a great place to live. Good luck on the job move.
