I have been trying to find a cool little spot down south that is smaller than all the touristy spot to enjoy a fishing trip but have not found much online for small towns. I found Melaque fishing online, which seems like an alright place but I do not know nothing about it and was hoping a little further South, but I do not know of anywhere so I was hoping someone here could help me find a cool little spot they know about, before I have to make a decision. Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated.
You might try Rincon De Gauyobitoes. Right north of PV on the main side . Most of the way is toll road freeway. Past Matzitlan. You can't escape all the Gringos

Hi, You would be better off in Melaque or Barra De Navidad They are close to each other. Barra has a Marina and is geared more toward fishing Than Guayabitos. Both nice small towns .3 hours south of Puerto Vallarta chech out www.tomzap.com
I consider Manzanillo, Barra and Melaque to be pretty fished out. I have kept my boat there for years.
Rincon the Guyabitos is a bay with no structure with only beach landing pangas, the town is pretty funky.
If you are not going in the the hot rainy time of the year I would try Hautulco or Punta Mita if you want big and inshore fish close by with good facilities and a small town flavor.
Manzanillo. We have our boat moored there, there is a few smaller charters in town and one at Las Hadas Marina. Las Hadas boat is "Double Trouble" owner Jimmy Brown. In town check out Sam Shorts boat the "Luckiest".
There are a few other local guides but the boats are not kept up very well.
Forget the mainland side. head over to the east cape and fish out of the Punt Arena area in the spring. Huge roosters, marlin and dorado all right there out of an inexpensive panga.
Stay at the Van Wormer resort and you have it all right there. My best trip ever was there in late June for the begining of the blue marlin bite.

Cool if you like little football tuna and small marlin, getting more sunburned and blown out with the wind. Pangas have great rides, not.
guayabitos sayulita are good options good cheap fishing year around pangas in sayulita are shaded ask for fidel the acomodations are nicer
guayabitos has more acomodations and cheaper but the town is not prety are all the fisherman are not used to take tourist out
mita got some of the best guys aroun ask for chilena but is not cheap around 500 dollars per day you can stay in bucerias for less money and is not far
your premise is incorrect. there are no great fishing spots left that the tourists have not found. I have traveled all of the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico and the Gringo's have destroyed all of them. High prices, Unfriendly Locals and scams everywhere. Good Luck

Uniformed BS.
There are still a lot of great fishing spots in Mexico, and I caught my first billfish there in 1958, so don't tell me how it used to be either.
I have lived there year round for 28 years. The tourists can be rude, but the locals are cools 99% of the time.

Come to Los Barriles. It's right inbetween two touristy towns (Cabo & La Paz) so have airport access but it still has the authentic flair. check us out at www.congosfishing.com
if you have any questions, let me know.
My husband and I did a fishing expedition in Puerto Vallarta. We were staying in old town so it was away from the major touristy spots. I'll try to remember to ask him what company it was that we went through. We had a really good time though!!
