Default Anyone have Alaska Recommendations?

I will vacation in Alaska next June and plan to stay for a day or two in Seward and another couple of days in Soldotna. The wife has made lodging arrangements. I'd like to catch salmon. Anyone recommended as guides. It will just be me fishing so I would have to join others on the boats (not private charters). Any other advice for a newbie?

There are some good charters out of Seward. If you are there in late June you should do well (July is the best - I usually take the month of July off just to fish for Silver salmon out of Seward). Neil Marlow has a nice large Power Catamaran - not a small one like mine in the picture - and will put you on the fish. Capt. Andy at Crackerjack is really good and so is Bob at Saltwater Safari. If you like I can get you some phone numbers, you need to make arrangements before you arrive as they can get pretty busy. I'm not connected to any of them, I fish off my own boat.

Thanks for the reply and for the advice. I will be in Seward on the 24th and in Soldotna on the 26th so hopefully the fishing will be good.

My wife plans these trips (usually cruises) and makes sure that I get at least one day of fishing no matter where we go. I'm supposed to feel better about spending my retirement money early because I get to go fishing. I usually have a good time, even last year in Cancun when we didn't get a single fish - not even a strike!

I'm looking forward to this trip. Thanks again.

Contact Dave Essert in Soldotna for fishing on the Kenai River.

My buddy in Seward retired but Cracker Jack has a good reputation.

Too bad you can't go with me! (Go look at my photo album or search my reports to see why).

Best of luck and you will love it!
