Default Flathead Lake, Montana (Lake Trout charter)

Hey all -

Headed out to Montana week after next, and just booked a trip on Flathead Lake for 6/21.

Going after Lake trout (Mackinaw??) never have fished for these before, just wondering if this was a good time of year. Booked an afternoon trip with Flathead Lake Charters.....they use Grady Whites for boats.

Just want to know what I am in for......thanks!

They are big and fun to catch. They can get up to 25 lbs !!! They are kind of a year round fish. That part of Montana is awsome. Visit Clacier park if you get a chance and stop at the Whitefish brewery for a huckelberry beer.

Beautiful area. We live near the south end of Flathead Lake in Polson. You should get plenty, not much of a fight, though. Just getting on the lake, and you will see probably the most beautiful area in the country with the Glacier peaks to the north, and the Mission mt pks to the south, and the Swan range to the east. good luck

I fished Flathead lake years and years ago when I was something teen. I recall going nuts because we could see all these big bass cruising and they wouldn't even look at a lure - then got a big strike on a red and white daredevl and it turned out to be a 20 inch rainbow. Hope I'm thinking of the right place - does Flathead have bass?

FYI the Lake trout I caught have all been in california but caught deep on downriggers they bloat up and come to the surface pretty easilly once you get them to a certain point.

This is a good time of the year. Lots of good eating. Plan for a fish fry. My dad has a place on the lake.

Head up to the Bigfork Inn for dinner and give the Crispy Farmhouse Duck a try. It is one of the best meals you will ever eat. I head to Montana every other year for a few weeks to Bow hunt Elk and absolutely love Montana. I have a good friend that lives in Bigfork give him a visit at his shop. He owns Kehoes In BigFork. Tell James That Mark will see him in September!!!.........Mark
