Default hawaii help

Any help would be appreciated...

I have a buddy at work that is honeymooning in Hawaii in July. He is staying at the Four Seasons in Kona. He is interested in fishing one day while there with his bride. Does anyone have a suggestion of something easy for them to do, where they will be able to catch fish with a charter. I'm pretty sure they aren't the trolling for marlin type. but something with some action, and probably only a half day because i'm sure they will want to get back in that bedroom at the four seasons.

thanks for the help

Have your friend talk to the captain and tell him you want to catch fish not troll all day for marlin - if you go for "big stuff" you can troll all day and if you're really lucky you get 1 marlin or really really really lucky and get 2 marlin or a big tuna.

If you go for "bait" you can probably manage anywhere from two to twenty Aku (skipjack tuna) from 2-20 lbs in half a day. The reason I say "bait" because live Aku is a favored bait for marlin. Loads of fun on light tackle. Make sure the captain has some light light light 15-20 pound gear for those Aku. Your friend could probably bring his own rig so long as it was in the 20lb class, short pole (5-6 foot) with lots of line (400 yds or so) To some in Kona "light" means 50lb class so make sure they have gear that will make catching a 10-20 pound fish fun.

Although some people turn up their nose at Aku I like it just fine on the grill. I used to know a guy who ran a boat named High Noon that was pretty good at catching fish. Don't know if he is still there or not - his name is Dee.

If you can't find him just google it and email the captain and get his feed back on what you want - make it clear you want losts of 5-20 lb fish NOT one big one. Otherwise - just walk the dock when you get there - be sure to talk to the captain and NOT the booking agent at the hotel. That way if he's up for what you want to do he can bring the right gear and leave the 130lb outfits at home (or just bring one just in case a marlin does charge one of your Aku you are pulling in).

P.S. Aku love pink and white kingkings or anything else that's kind of hot reddish orange pink - depending on the day.
