Been asked by a buddy to enter this tournament in February. Any of you Washington people ever fish it?
How is the blackmouth fishing in that area around that time? Do you have to purchase your entry tickets early or
is it something you can sign up for the day of the tourney?

I have fished it more than a few times - best we ever did was a 16# fish. Good for 6th that year, would have won in a few of the "thin" years. It does crank out some nice fish also - a near 20# BM is a thing of beauty - and pound for pound probably the best salmon fight. It can also be spotty, cold and rough..but it is fun. Normally you can get derby tics at several places, inc the tavern conv/mart at the head of Disco bay. I buy them the eve before on the way in. It is also a 1/2 day Monday thing, so be prepared for that. I think they have a website w fish drop locations and places to buy tics.

We have fished it the past three years. Placed something like 8th and 13th last year. Pretty good prize pool. I agree with Tomictime, the weather can be cold and nasty. Our good friend Brenda Chisolm (PONYTAIL) out of PT Townsend won the year before last with a 22.2 pounder. We will all be there again this year right after the Roche Harbor derby.

You're going to want to get some moorage at John Wayne Marina in Sequim or in Port Townsend for the Derby, it's a real Zoo and trying to launch and retrieve a boat is a major pain. Lots of fun watching the boat launches though.
