Have owned 2 F250 Diesels, but bought a new 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7 crew cab 4x4 about 18 mos ago. Already have 38k miles on it. Own a 24' bayboat center console. I pull it about 200-250 miles one way to the coast. Have not had any problems with the truck as it pulls and rides great. First Toyota I have ever owned, just was wondering if others have had one for a while and if any problems encountered. So far, so good. Avg 14.5 mpg, and about 10mpg pulling the boat. Thanks

I have owned 2 Tundra's with no problems. 1st was a 2002 that I kept till the new model's came out in 2007. Had over 120k in mileage with no problems. Only reason I traded it in is I need something to tow my boat and my old Tundra couldn't do it. My current Tundra has 48k in mileage and is trouble fee. I only tow my boat a couple times a year and it does a great job on the ramp and pulling. I average about 17mpg when not pulling the boat and around 10 when pulling.

I have the 2007 double cab 5.7 4x4. I also have a leveling kit(adds 3 inches to the front). I used it to tow my bay boat also(boat was stolen). I have a little over 50000 miles on it so far. I was also going to buy a 250 or 2500 when shopping for it. But I think i made the right decision in buying the toyota. I do tow close to its 10600 pound advertised tow weight with it occasionally(farm equipment). It also has the tow kit. I'm running 305 65 18 bfg all terrain. so they are slightly bigger then the 285's that are stock. I get around 14.5 as well. Overall it has been a good buy(knock on wood). the only thing i don't like is the overly senstive throttle made worse by the mods to keep the pedal from getting stuck. which did happen to me twice but i figured it out and just pulled the pedal up with my hand(i'm 6'5 with monkey arms). Even though i do like the truck for the next one i'll be going back to a cummins powerd truck. also here is a forum for the tundra. http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/forum.php
I have a '10 crewmax 4X4, only had it about 9 months, so far so good, my previous truck was a '03 Dodge 3500 diesel, also a good truck bought it new and sold it to get the Toyota.
I also have a 2010 Tundra CrewMax. 8000 something miles on mine now, I average 16-17 MPG in mostly highway driving. I have owned a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab and a 2004 Nissan Titan crew cab previously and I think I will have this Tundra for a long time.
These forums are more active than the one mentioned above:
2010 Tundra Crewmax 5.7. Only had it a few months, but no complaints, and I don't expect any. This is my 3rd Toyota. Started with a Tacoma, then got a 4Runner, now I'm in the Tundra. No issues with any of them.
I'm getting around 16 mpg around the city, and around 10 when towing.
Have an '08 crewmax and it tows 7600# of boat/trailer (on a truck scale) just great. No prob with hills. It's an excellent tow vehicle. At 65 mph towing, under 9 mpg--that's the downside. No other problems in 18 k miles--tire wear is a bit more than I'd like to see.
Wait untill you get some miles, I have a 2000 2500 Dodge Cunnins with 275,000 miles, a 2001 3500 Dodge Cummins with 140,000 miles, and a 2003 3500 Cummins with 105,000 miles, all with no problems, I did change some batteries.
Business must be good. I've been to three different dealers and not one of them will order/build the one I want. They're only concerned with what they have on their property or whats on the way.
If anyone knows of a Regular Cab 4x4 with a short bed and the V8 sitting around let me know.
I've owned Toyota trucks since 71...they called them HiLux back then. They had 200 cc's more than the Datsuns at the time, so that's why I went with them! Owned it; a '79, '82, '92, and then the '04 I have now. All have been reliable and thrifty to own.
My Son and ex wife both own the gen2 model Tundras. Son's is a 2 dr short bed with a 5.7 and factory supercharger. I have yet to ride in anything that large that went that fast! The ex's 5.7 also averages around 16 at best..the 5.7's are a little thirsty.
I have been shopping for the '10 model with the 4.6 and 6 speed. 20 mpg hwy and will tow up to 8500#'s....

i bought a new (4.8L i belive?) standard cab long box 2wd last september and am putting it up for sale in 2 weeks. I just hate the way it drives and some of the small things in it. mechanically, no problems other than a noticeable pull to the right since new. it IS a basleline model though, and was bought as a work truck.
small things:
-glove box wont stay shut if you hit a bump
-limited seat settings ( im sure that better models have more you can adjust though)
-wind shield wipers only have to speeds! on, and on fast.
-cant read the radio or clock in the sun, and the radio is very hard to read/see the way it is angled.
-once coming to a stop, after about 5 seconds theres a little clunk from the transmission, almost like its popping into neutral or something after driving but not right when you stop. enough to feel it = i dont like.
-gas nozzle is not mounted on a plate, its sitting in a rubber gasket and the torque from the nozzle is enough to move it around quite a bit when filling up and leaves gaps around the nozzle neck.
-gauge cluster is just ass ugly, and the back lights are always on.
-the clock does not dim with the rest of the lights
-you cant turn off the back lights, yet you need to dim them when driving at night, and the adjuster is in a horrible place to get at.
-the cruise control (i dont know if this is a toyota thing orr?) is mounted on the moving part of the steering wheel, so if im trying to adjust it when not going straight its not an instant find.
-i do know its the smaller engine, but just having 3 ppl in the truck vs. 1 i can feel the weight driving and the engine needing to work harder.
-you can see right through gaps on the side of the tailgate when its closed.
there is NO way in hell i would pull more than 4 or 5000lbs with this truck with the way it just handles a full cab of people or 1000lbs of product in the bed, both motor and suspension wise.
however, it does have good brakes! ill give it that for sure.

That is just how Toyota does it. You can't order one, only put in a wish list of what you want and see when it pops up.
LOVE my 08 Tundra CM 4x4 by the way....

My day job
I've got a 2001' Tundra with 144,000 miles. Not a fault! I normally keep vehicles 240k miles plus or 10 years. I'll probably have this one much longer as there's just no reason to change. Hauls like a truck, drives like a car!
Business must be good. I've been to three different dealers and not one of them will order/build the one I want. They're only concerned with what they have on their property or whats on the way.
Go to a different dealer. I was pretty particular in what I wanted when purchasing the 4Runner and the Tundra. With the Tacoma, I bought off the lot. The other two had to be brought in from elsewhere.
The dealership that I bought from were willing to work with me to make sure I got what I wanted. Others just simply stated that wasn't available.
A couple cases in point:
2006. Wanted a 4Runner with leather seats, V8, and 4WD. I live in FL, so those are few and far between. Went to one dealer, and they found me one on the other coast of FL through SET. Shopped at another dealer and they flat out told me that none were available. Even though I had printouts showing several available. Bought from the 1st dealer.
2010. Wanted a Tundra Crewmax 5.7L SR5 with leather seats. Dealer told me that I could have cloth or go with the Limited. "No leather for you." Went back to the dealer that I bought my Tacoma and 4Runner from. They told me no problem. Toyota doesn't make them that way, but we'll be glad to install it on site. Paid the same as I did for the leather upgrade on the 4Runner, but these seats look to be a much higher quality leather than what came from the factory 4Runner.
Aiian - I went through the same nonsense when I bought my 4runner. The floor salespeople want to sell what they have in stock. I think they are worried that they may not be around to collect a commission check a few weeks down the road when a special order comes in. I finally fixed my problem by going through the Costco auto buying process. They set you up with a dealership contact and you go from there - the prices are pre-negotiated, and in my case were several thousand dollars less than what I was able to obtain through the haggle process. If you live in the SE the dealership contact can access the entire inventory of cars in the SE, the inventory sitting at the Jacksonville point of entry, or even aboard ship on the way to the U.S.. In my case I bought a 4x4 V8 4runner which was on its way from Japan. It took 4 -5 weeks to get to the dealership, but I was O.K. with that. By the way - 112,000 miles on the 4runner and going strong.
Has anyone used the AAA Auto Club South buying service?? You have to be a member to use the site, but it showed prices well below dealer cost for new Tundras...

I have a 2006 4-door, 35,000 miles (I have a work vehicle). I pull an 18' CC 300 miles round-trip about every other weekend and pulled it to the keys and back (1,400+ miles) this Summer. Pulls great, just wish it got a little better gas mileage. My biggest complaint is the tailgate. Way heavy and no gas shocks to let it down slow. I understand they fixed that problem in 2007. Despite recent recalls, etc.., I love my Toyota and every other one we have ever had. My work car is a Durango and at the risk of offending Durango owners, it is a pile of crap compared to my Tundra.
I ordered my CM, I wanted a bench seat in the front with a column shifter, took 7 weeks to get it but I got what I wanted in the color I wanted.
You can fill out a dream sheet like I said, and get what you want if it is out there, but they will not take that sheet to the factory and build "YOU" a truck. Just not how they do it.
Now one thing they do is add certain options at the central "Port" if you want to call it that. Trucks show up at this location before being distributed out to dealers, and certain options can be changed/added at that time.
When I bought my truck, the exact one I wanted didn't exist in the southeast region so I got the one with the most options that I wanted. Actually bench seat CM was what I was looking for too, but couldn't find it with all the other options I wanted so I ended up with SR5 TRD. I stiil with I had the bench seat, but that is the only thing I would change.
