I have a 2006 Tacoma, V-6, six speed stick, 4WD with positive traction rear end, and towing package. I pull our 24 foot Carolina Skiff with it, and get 16.5 MPG towing, if I don't stomp the throttle. Plenty of power towing, and gets (depending on traffic & weather) 20-21 MPG without a boat behind us. In 4WD low, I've never had any problems on any ramps.
I weighed my boat motor and trailer at a scale today. 3/4 tank of gas, 10 gallons of fresh water. It came in at 5280#..my '10 Tacoma 2WD DC V6 TRD OR pulls it great.
Crew Max it is So what do I want for a motor, options ect.... please help spend my money
In the northeast you can only get a CM in 4X4 with the 5.7L. The base truck comes very well equipped, the bench is standard which is actually the same driver and passenger seats as the truck with bucket seats the difference is in the center console, the bench seat is key if you want to be able to take 6 people in the truck.

Towing package Premium Alloy Leather......all standard Mac??? Figure 0% I'll buy it with their money
I two my 17 cc with my Tacoma double cab, though when we eventually upgrade to a bigger boat, I'll likely upgrade to a bigger truck. The brakes in the Tacoma are the weak point I believe.
Tundra seems to be the recommendation, which is good to know considering that'w what we recently got and are looking to upgrade our boat next year so looks like we'll have enough power for our next upgrade.
The overall wheelbase of the truck is what will make a difference towing, not bed length. If the CM bed is shorter but the cab is longer, and the overall wheelbase of the truck is still the same, they should tow the same.
Bed length???? The salesman is trying to talk me out of a CM.....stating the bed is way to short especially for towing.....
Honest thoughts on the CM bed?
The only reason they probably tried to talk you out of it is because there are so many more double cabs than crewmax trucks.
No problem here, plenty long for anything I haul, you can always put the tailgate down.
If you never sit in the back, you don't need the extra back seat space the crew max provides. I like and use the extra bed space on mine and not sorry I snubbed the CM. Tundratalk and tundraheadquarters are good sites for info about pimping your new tundra.

John, I assume the CM represents a true full 4 door versus the 1/2 door with the smaller rear seats. If so, I would go with the CM. I find the family loves to travel in the Titan with all the room and nice ride. My bed is around 5'. The only down side of the stubby bed is lack of room for rods. I have to stick them through the front cap window. If you do not have a cap then it does not matter.

And that they are. At least most of them. IIRC, there are three wheelbases on the Tundras.
Short: Available in regular cab with standard bed.
Medium: Available in regular cab with long bed, double cab with standard bed, and crewmax with short bed (only option).
Long: Available in double cab with long bed.
And the difference is not that great. 9900 for CM, 10,100 for DC with long bed, and 10,400 for RC with long bed. All with the 5.7 liter, of course.
Oh, and regarding the bed length. Sure, it's shorter, but really not much of an issue. I've hauled a bunch of things in mine from cinder blocks to pool tables. They either fit in the 5' bed with the tailgate closed, or I would not have fit in the standard bed with the gate closed either.
