Default Rust from salt on trailer

I live about 90 miles inland but just purchased a 2006 Key West with a 2006 EZ Loader trailer from the coast of FL. The trailer is in good condition with a few wiring issues but every single bolt and most places on the jack are rusted pretty bad. It is an eye soar that I would like to fix. What is the best way to do this? Also will this rust affect the structural integrity or is it just on the outside?

First, is it an aluminum trailer, a galvanized steel trailer, or a painted steel trailer?

What material are the bolts made of?

Depending on how much it bothers you, you could try rust remover on the bolts or you could replace them. I suspect it's surface rust, not a structural issue.

Trailer jacks are not expensive. Replace it if the rust bothers you.

Probably the cheapest trailer for that boat and definitely without the SS upgrade.

I would think all the fasteners are only zinc plated.

Be careful about replacing hardware as you can get some reaction from dissimilar metals.

I take a wire brush then sand the rusted hardware and then hit them with CRC heavy duty. Is there a paint or rust converter that is good to use to protect the non galvanized or aluminum parts?
