Default How much should a decent used trailer cost?

I'm in the market for a trailer... Looking at two sizes.

-One for a 25 foot, 5,000 Lb Boat
-One for a 20 Foot 2,500 Lb Boat

What should each of these cost -- assuming the trailer is in excellent condition/late model?

Any advice on brands, where to purchase, etc. would be helpful.

Thx,

RSM

Used trailers are hard to find, RedSox. You're better off just buying new. This place has the best prices north of Boston on Venture trailers, which are a perfectly fine middle of the road brand.

What kind of 25' boat only weighs 5000 pounds? For that matter, what kind of fiberglass 20' boat only weighs 2500 pounds? You should probably double check those weights and then factor in 20% additional capacity for the trailer.

gf -- thx for the link.

I came up with the weight totals as follows, although point taken that these are dry weights and I should factor in more lbs:

-1,980 lbs (Scout 205cc) + 475 lbs Y(amaha 150 4 Stroke) = Just shy of 2,500 dry...

-4,800 lbs dry (my Pursuit 2460)...

Nothing against anyone selling a used trailer but I've found a very higher percentage of used trailers are completely worn out for regular use. If you need a winter storage trailer that sits near the ramp then you could find something acceptable....otherwise I recommend buying new (nothing worse than leaving a nice boat on the side of the road due to a cheap trailer)

WOAH, don't buy a trailer using those weights!!!!
What about gear? fuel? plus the 10% even the manufacturers recommend as a cushion?
IMO that Scout needs a 3,500 lbs tandem and the Pursuit needs a 7,000lbs tandem.

Okay, I wasn't saying I wanted a trailer with the maximum capacity of those weights... just saying that was the weight of these boats "dry". Obviously, as I stated above, in reality they'll weigh a lot more -- and clearly I'd get much higher weight capacities -- similar to what you mentioned.

Thx.

This is a perfectly good example of what you can put under that boat that you're selling. Tandem and the weight class are correct for that Pursuit. Ask him what length of boat sat on it originally and, if it's about the same length as the Denali, you're home free.

A new one would cost maybe $3500, then there's tax and registration.

Which birthday is coming up on stuff like trailers doesn't matter much to me, it's all about condition. Good condition, my rule of thumb is half of new replacement.
2 Years ago I bought a 6 month old trailer that was $3300 new for $2600 and sold my 4 year old one for $1500... Everyone were THT'rs and it all went down within a couple days right here in this forum in the same thread, BTW.
