Default How big is my Chevy alternator?

Vehicle is a 2002 Siverado Regular cab long bed 2500.It is NOT a heavy duty "HD" model. Cant find anything in the owner's manual, or under the hood, to answer the question. Tried to buy a serpentine belt, and the attendant asked me "is it a 105 amp or 130 amp alternator". I followed that question with my best "I have no clue" look.

Any help is much appreciated.

they always ask questions that make no sense, i bet if you bought a belt for each diff. size alternator you'd end up with two the same belts anyway. try that,, if there are two choices, return the one that doesnt match your old one, and you will know what size your alt. is

Good advice, but my situation is I am buying this belt as a spare. I am in the habit of having a set of radiator hoses and spare belt(s) in the vehicle. Don't really want to touch the front of the motor until I have too.

Thanks for your reply.

Quick follow-up. Got off my lazy mind and called the Chevy dealership I bought the truck from. According to the service dept, the only way to determine the size of the alternator was by the VIN. Gave them that and they told me it was a 105 amp alternator. Go figure.

Thanks again for the offers of help.

Onejacker you can also tell using the RPO codes inside the glove box on a white sticker. They are the three letter codes that tell you every thing that came on your vehicle. There are several websites where you can decode the codes. Also it should be marked on the on or near the plug on the alternator. Unfortunately you might have to remove it to see tthe markings, but since you already know you wont have to.

Good to know for the future. Thanks for the info.

i see you found out which one, but for future ref. if you look at the alternator from the front of the truck it is stamped between the fins more to right of center. looks like they stamped it with a dot matrix printer if this makes sense. may have to clean it off with brake cleaner to actually read it.

If you have the tow package, you have the larger alternator.

check the original belt for i.d. numbers you may have to turn the motor over a few times before the belt stops where you can read the relevant i.d. numbers etc ..
