Default Ford F-150 - Reg

I really am in love with the ford F-150 and want to get one but am unsure. It must be 4 door and it need to have towing capacity for a

Regulator 24 Foot - about 6,500 lbs.

What Ford f-150 model would be good and anyone selling one -
JP.

I have to think that a 24' Regulator with engines, fuel and trailer weighs more than 6500 pounds.

I think you will find there are several people on this site towing the 23' Regulator with 1/2 ton trucks and most of them would be happy to have a 3/4 ton truck.

I think you should be looking at the F-250 instead.

I drive a 09 F150. Crew cab (4 dr), 5.5'bed 5.4L, 6spd auto, 3.73LS, max tow package. Rated for 11,300lbs. I to a 23' Proline express with hardtop that has lots of aero drag. Boat/trlr scaled right around 7000lbs. Gas can add 600lbs. The f150 pulls it very fine. I use the "tow'haul" button and set the speed control at 70 (don't tell Nerdyduck). About 9.5-10.0 mpg towing this way with neutral wind. I am in Key Largo for the winter and most my driving is 1 mile shunts. 14mpg doing this. Empty, the truck gets about 18mpg at 75mph. Really pleased. Have the lariat, sunroof, leather, etc. Rides great despite having the (relatively) high tow rating. Opted for the BIG mirrors and back up camera. The camera is great, the big mirrors almost too big if not towing (block some vision). Great choice of vehicle. Great interior with a flat floor with the back seat folded up. Plenty of room inside for passengers or gear with the seat bottoms up.

This exactly the truck I was looking at and want to get. The large mirrors and the back up light is also GREAT advise.

WHAT WOULD I PAY FOR A F-150 as listed above in an 08 or maybe an 09??

The 24 Reg, deffinately weighs more than 6500#s. However I think an 09-10 F150 would be fine. I tow my 236 Sailfish with a 04 F150 and a 09 F150. My rig is about 7k #s and the 2009 pulls like a champ. The 2004 Pulls fine too. My faults with the 09 is tranny shifts crazy and very unsmooth while NOT towing. Hard to see out of due to the large headrest, Tow mirrors are a little big, seats make you sit at an uncomfortable position (to me atleast). The truck drives and rides awesome. The power for towing is good and the suspension/stability is #1 under tow. I think that unless you are going to be towing ALOT as in daily an F150 will be fine.

I pull a 200724FS with an F350. The website says the hull is 4300# but my owners manual says 5000#. Two F150's add another 1000#, the trailer nearly that, then 150 gallons of fuel at 6+ lbs/gal, gear, etc. Probably between 7 and 8,000 #. I'd think a 250 would be a safer bet.

I pulled my 8,500 lb 28ft CC home from NJ. 6 hour drive and I pulled it 65 mph the whole way. Once I got up to speed I didn't even feel it behind me. The F-150 will have plenty for that boat.

With the crew cab (4drs), your big decisions are:
.pick the 5.4L, 6spd auto, 3.73L, and max trlr tow
.2 or 4wd (adds $3000)
.bed length (5.5, 6.5, 8)
.Leather or cloth seats, leather makes you go with a higher trim package (lariat or up I believe)
.Nav system, 20" whls, heated/cooled seats, buckets vs bench, moonroof, sound system, running boards, etc, etc, can be added in packages or ala cart. HIGHLY recommend back up sensors and camera. Not a lot of money.

Get a brochure at the dealer, study the options. See the interiors and length of vehicle at the dealers before ordering. The crew cab is a pretty long cab, so even the 5.5' bed makes for a long vehicle in the grocery store parking lot.
Enjoy the process.

I had a 2004 f-150 extended cab with the 5.4 engine with the tow package.
I have a 23 Reg with twins. I sold the truck and got a f-350 5.4 engine. I feel much safer. In my opinion the 150 didnt pull it well, alot of tong weight and swag.

I have a 2005 F-150 fourdoor with the 5.4 and I have pulled both 23 and 26 Regs fine! You could really feel the 26 back there, having that said I came from a F250. Having a F250 you could pull a 32 Reg and not worry. Pulling the 23 reg I think you would be fine as long you werent pulling it long distances......500 miles. I think the F150 is a good truck, and lots of room in the interior. All depends on how much you want to spend.

I also have F150 with 5.4 with tow package and I have no problems pulling a 23' Seacraft. Only thing is the stopping. Glad the trailer has brakes.
