Not sure about that model but all the GM trucks I've owned were not far off the mileage it stated on the sticker. And i dont drive like an old lady. I was really suprised but it was. My wife drives a 07 Hyundia Santa Fe with the big engine and it gets about 15% worse than what the sticker states it should get. Could be the 10%ethanol fuel she puts in it(about the only thing available anymore in Wilmington, NC). Cheap woman.

My 2500 HD didn't have a mileage rating..heavy duty truck. In real life it's pretty crappy with a 6.0l iron block gas engine and 6 speed automatic...10 or less in town, maybe 15 on the highway. Weighs 5200 lbs. empty.

If you want mileage, buy the Duramax Diesel. My '07 gets 23mpg on the highway at 70 to 72 mph and 16 in heavy traffic. It's hot rod when you want the power !!!

My next one will be a diesel. People say why get the diesel if you only tow 25 % or less time? I say because 16+ mpg around town is a good reason

Don't buy a diesel for mileage, you will never recoup the initial cost, the engine option is at least $6k, and fuel is anywhere from $0.30 to $1 a more a gallon depending on time of year. Great for towing and they get better mileage but not enough to justify the expense unless you need the power.

I have to agree with MacCTD I was looking at Ford F250's yesterday. The diesel option was $6800.

Some will come back at resale, not all of it but about 40% of the 6800 i would say. Just figured by looking at used truck prices, anybody think so also?

I agree as well. I bought a diesel F250 last year for the low-end torque for towing, not fuel efficiency. It was a $6,500 bump over the gasser and I'll never make it back in fuel efficiency since I've been driving it as my daily driver and boat hauler for about 18 months and still don't have 10,000 miles on it yet. If I was buying again I'd only look at diesels.

Definetly, but don't forget the higher fuel costs usually offsets the better mileage so actual operating cost per mile is about the same, but if you need the power for towing diesel is the way to go.

I have to throw the BS flag on this one. My 2008 GMC 5.3 only gets at best 18 mpg highway and 13-14 mpg city. When pulling boat it gets 9 mpg.

One thing you're overlooking comparing the diesel to the gas is longevity. I don't know much about the new ones but I have a 96 powerstroke with 170,000 miles on it and I expect at least another 100,000 of course oil changes are more expensive but the better mileage should make up for that. If you plan on keeping the truck for a long time diesels are the way to go.

Today, any gas engine will last a quarter million miles also, with much less expensive maintenance. I've seen an awful lot of really expensive parts replaced on diesels..water separators, EGR's, high pressure pumps, filters. Most gas engines, all you do when you open the hood is make sure the engine is still there.

Diesels seem to be a crap shoot..some have no problems, some break the bank.

agree with billinstuart, got over 340,000 with a 84 dodge 318 and now have a 95 with over 220,000 with 360. if they would only make a tranny that would hang with the motors...

Not to pile on but I'm with halfmoon and racedad. I have a 06 5.4 FX4 Crew Cab and have never gotten better than 18. Around town, down hill and with a tail wind, I get around 14.5. Hence the 91 accord with a 5sp . Truck's been sitting except to tow the boat and do yard work. This reminds me that I should take the day off tomorrow and go catch some STRIPERS. Cheers!
