Like the diesel but my 99 1500 with the 5.7 just turned 220,000 and if everything else holds together i'am shooting for 275-300 then shop for something else. Hopefully by then Gm (or Ford) will have a midsize truck with the diesel. Wishful thinking.

I have a regular cab GMC 2008 model that has the small V-8 in it, I did not want the 5.3 engine . The smaller engine is not good on gas, about 17 on the highway, maybe 13 around town ! I live near the Ocean so gas mileage when I pull my boat doesn't really matter ! I have found the mileage they quote on the sticker probably will not be your mileage with any gas truck, and yes I know its an estimated mileage and it may vary ! In most cases it will and it won't be higher !

I don;t know how you guys are getting that kind of mileage out of the 5.3 liter Tahoes. My wife has the GMC Yukon XL, 5.3V8 with 3.73 gears and her computer never says better than 13.7mpg in and around town, and on the interstate trips it is typically upper 16s to 17.2mpg MAX. Maybe I just drive the interstate a lot faster than you guys but I am in S. TX and La and it is flat as can be........

My 2003 Crew Cab/Duramax had better mileage than my 07 does, buy it for longetivity and towing capability, I drive a Cobalt around town and use the GMC for towing.

yea my 07 5.3 sucks. maybe ill get 18 on the highway and it really doesnt have all that much power. sometimes pullin out on the highway i wish i had the 6.2 that the denali has. love the truck just not the engine. wish they made this size suv with a diesel. its a no brainer to me but i guess everyone like hybrid now. rather spend the same money on the hybrid but it have a diesel under the hood.

I've got an 07 Tahoe Z71 4x4 with the 5.3 and 3.73 gears and I regularly average 19 to 20 on the highway. I set the cruise control around 73-75mph. The only gas I ever use is 87 with 10% ethanol as gas is expensive in DC and nowhere around still offers it without ethanol. To the guys getting less, do you use cruise control? I've noticed that the engine goes into 4cyl mode much more frequently when on cruise control.

Around town I average anywhere from 14-15.5, and that is sitting in DC traffic.

Truck is stock with 37k miles.

X2

My 03' Duramax gets awesome MPG's...22-24. Bought it new and only has 49k on it. We use it for hauling the Mowers, Tractor, Camper and Boat...Drive an old beater back and forth to work.

I've got a '99 GMC K2500 4x4 with gas engine...just turning 240K on it now. Never had any major problems, but is getting pretty worn out with a/c issues starting to crop up. I get in the 13mi/gal range on flat roads in the slow lane. Its been a really good truck, but I'm prolly going with the diesel next time due to much more anticipated pulling in the next 10-15 yrs. I'll go until next year sometime and try to get somewhere around 260K on it. I hate that those new rigs cost $50k+, but I guess you gotta pay to play.

I have a 2003 2500 HD 4x4 5.3. I love it, it tows great, it's dependable, but it has a hard time passing gas stations. New it was 20 Hyw, 15 twn, 12 loaded. Now, with 115k on her it's 16 Hyw, 12 twn, 9 loaded.

A 2500 hd with a 5.3 when did they make that? It would have a 6.0 or a diesel.

I have a 2009 gmc crew cab short box 6.0 3.73 truck gets around 12-14 town driving 16-18 highway but if you are heavy on the gas she loves fuel. All that being said it is a heavy truck and the tranny is smooth great ride on the highway with alittle weight in it! No problems 30000 mi. bought in nov. 08

I've got a 2004 GMC 2500 4x4 crew cab/short bed with the 6.0L. My average fuel burn from the dash readout is 14mpg.

I understand mine not to be HD. It's the 1500 frame with the HD suspension and of course the 6.0L engine. Overall, I have liked the truck (140,000 miles).

Main gripe is the ride. My suspension is rough - I've tried changing shocks and doesn't seem to help.
