Guys,

I have a 97 Expedition as my primary tow vehicle. It has 170k miles on it and is running strong...I am curious as to how many miles I should expect out of the Tansmission. Mostly I travel flat roads and tow 7500 Pounds about 500 miles a year...I know this is very subjective, but am interested in first hand expieriences.

In my experience, about 150,000 is it. If you are at 170, I'd have it gone through now, so you are not replacing broken pieces or replacing the radiator because tranny debris is in the cooler. You should be able to find a shop who will do a decent job for under $1,500 if the trans is still working properly. Don't make the mistake of waiting until it comes apart.

I'm at 171,700 on my 2001 F150 4x4 Super Crew. Changed the fluid 3 times since I bought it with 28,000 on it. Tow about the same as the OP.
No problems. I think the flat roads in Fla. are a bit easier on vehicles, although the heat can be a killer.
