Currently have a 2006 Z71 Tahoe with 82k miles. Thinking about a newer Tahoe or maybe another truck. Don't tow alot but tend to treat a SUV like a truck which is not neccesarily a good thing.
Thinking: 2008-2009 Tahoe, 2007-2009 Chevy 1500 crew cab, or 2006-2008 F150.....also love the looks of the new Tacoma crew cabs...understand they are bigger than used to be, but might have to check it out.
What are 2008-2009 Tahoe LT 4wd running these days? And the others?
I got an 07 Tahoe in April. LOVE this thing. Put 12k on her already. She had 33k on her, its on LT3, white with black leather, heated captains for second row, plus the third row, only thing it doesn't have was navi (which i added), and sunroof. Paid just under 30 for it. Tows 7500 which is plenty. If you need more towing then you need a pickup. Ive pulled our 27 contender with the Tahoe just to get gas in the boat, it was fine for a 3 mi trek. We make our longer towing with an 05 Titan. awesome truck, nice size, perfect for all around use. Tows 9400 with the big tow package. The contender and Titan is a great match. I wouldn't tow it down to fla with the Titan but if i had to it would do it. Maybe next summer.

Many larger utes are built on the same platform as their pick-up siblings. You will get the same veicle (basically) for less money with a pick-up. Moreover, stuff you wouldn't want in the pax compartment of your vehicle can be thrown into the pick-up bed. In case you can't tell, I'm a pick-up guy.
To me its a matter of how often you need the pick up bed, and how often the SUV would serve better. I have a Tahoe, on the rare occasions I could use a pick up, usually 6' bed won't help anyway. I use a utility trailer, easier to load, I can carry a lot more weight, 18' 2x12's no problem (lots of'em) or a ton of stones. I have been lightly considering buying a 3/4 ton crew cab pickup (or van) to do some traveling because it is the only way to take my bike and my boat at the same time that I can come up with. But fortunately I can rent a scoot just about anywhere I want to go for far less ag than adding another vehicle to the fleet.
Had pickups for the past 9 years or so. Just went from the V8 2007 Tundra to a 2010 Expedition. So far, surprisingly the Expedition tows the bayboat fine with only a little more effort than the Tundra. The Expedition is shorter, so easier to park, and I was amazed that it was much easier to line up and back the trailer down the ramp than the truck was. About the only downside so far is when I take my trash to the dump, but so far a cargo liner in the back is working out ok.
For anyone that just tows the boat on weekend, doesn't haul a ton of stuff around all the time, and doesn't need 9-10K towing capacity, I'd say the big SUVs are worth considering. I will say that the trucks are less expensive to buy and a Crew cab version is almost as nice as an SUV, but now that I am used to it I prefer the SUV.

had various pick ups for about 15 years (import compact, full size chev, dodge and even new Tundra) but in 2007 i bought a new '07 Tahoe LTZ and now i'm a very happy SUV guy. The only reason to get a truck would be a 3/4 or 1 ton unit for towing bigger stuff, but since my father has a dodge diesel i can freely use that is not going to happen anytime soon.
I really like the ride of Tahoe compared to a truck and fewer blind spots for city driving. Also i and now worry less about leaving fishing gear in the vehicle (2x had tools or fishing gear lifted from the back of the truck that had a canopy). Gear stowed in the back is quickly and easily covered with the retracting privacy cargo cover.
I think part of the decision should be if you are buying new or used and if you plan to resell it ever. I have done a lot of looking lately on Trader.com and Craigslist...it seems that Pickup Trucks hold their value better used...SUVs are cheaper on the used market...
