Default Tire and rim ratings

Well, I'm researching tires for my trailer and I found tires 205 75 14's D rated 2250 lbs. @ 65 psi, that's great. I'm now running C rated 1760 lbs or so @ 50 psi. Now, I've been looking at Aluminium wheels as well, and noticed that they have ratings too! some are 1600lbs and some go to 1900 lbs, ***! my Galvanized rims are probably rated @ the lower of the 2. So if I put tires rated @ 2250 lbs @ 65 psi on those 1600lbs rims is there a hazards awaiting me? I thought I'd go with a higher rated tire for better wait distribution. My rig is approx. 5800 lbs loaded. I really don't want to buy 6 new tires and wheels in the 15" size, when I could buy 6 tires and just 2 new or used galvanized rims ( 2 spares ) Any thoughts on this?

I havent seen a 14 15 or 16" steel wheel yet rated under 2000lbs. Of course it doesnt mean there arent any but I would bet yours are rated around 2400 to 2600 lbs.

First, check your source. I may be wrong, but the tires in that size & a "D" load range that I see are rated for more like 1820 - 1870 lbs, not 2250. Maybe you were looking at 15" tires?
I'd go with 6 of the heavy duty tires and 2 galvanized rims.

Kumho radial 851 D rated; 205 75 14 2271 lbs from tirerack w/a couple of good reviews on them. A manufacture was in touch and said the gal. rims I have are way under rated and will be no problem, however I should use high pressure stems ( some stems w. nuts on them would be recommended ) checked on them and they rum just a couple of bucks each. So long story short, I'm gonna go w/ getting 6 tires and 2 new or used gal rims and then I'l have 2 spares to carry for long trips
