As I recall, Kodiak disc brakes originally came pads that were not very well protected from rust & corrosion, and subsequently upgraded them with pads that had a red coating. I believe they are are powder coated now. The new pads are not nearly as susceptible to rust.
I just replaced the 4 year old pads on my trailer, used almost exclusively in salt water, last summer because most of them were saturated with grease. I tried to degrease them, and the degreaser started to dissolve the pad material. Otherwise I would have continued to use them.
I would suggest inspecting them before making the decision. If they are the newer, red, pads you may not have enough rust built up them to justify replacement.
