I need a new trailer jack, thinking on getting a jack with no wheel. Anyone have one? Do you miss the wheel? I don't move it any way, seems like the way to go. Trailer does get dipped in saltwater alot, the original one lasted 6 seasons. Boat, motor & trailer loaded is 2800# not counting the sinlde axle trailer, weight is estimated high.
Thanks in ad avance, Brian

Used to have a wheel on my jack until it sank into the nice soft FL sand. I changed to one without the wheel and have never had a problem. I don't miss the wheel.
I don't have a wheel, but my boat is too big to push around. When I did have a boat with a wheel i thought it was awful when I was parking on grass or dirt because it would sink. I ended up carrying a 12 inch 2x6 around for it.
Had the plate, needed to replace the jack, bought one with a wheel. It's in the garage yours for the taking. went back to the plate. I never felt comfortable with the wheel. The swivel mechanism always felt like weak spot.

Agree.
I added a metal footed one and left the wheel on too, just in case.
Just remember that with out the wheel you might need to carry a 6"X6" for the height to get on/off the ball.

Lester: That piece of wood you are talking about also saves a lot of cranking. I've got a piece of 6 x 6 that goes under the jack every time. When the trailer is hooked up, it goes into the back of the truck. You can't use a wheel on the 6 x 6, because it can roll off, but it works so well under a flat foot that you'll never want a wheel.
I bought this one from Northern Tool. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...5574_200155574
It's drop leg so you can get the bow up high enough without something under the wheel/foot (I've since quit using any wood under the foot).
I moved the jack with the wheel back on the tongue so I can still roll it if I need to, but never have needed it except for a back-up jack while working under the trailer.
Oh, and if you make one of these, you'll never have to guess what height the coupler should be for reconnecting to the ball.
Magnet on a chain - the magnet attaches to the tongue to let you get get everything out of the way when not measuring for the correct height.

Ditto, I bought one for my last and have one on the current trailer. Will lift the tongue up to 36" very easy to get the bow up high enough to drain. Not to mention, none of the wheel/base spinning while cranking, it is faster than any jack I've had because of the extending base too. It's 2500lb capacity which is nice...
