Default Need some info for lift kit......

Does anyone have any info about doing a spring over axle lift? I have heard that there are "flip kits" out there which allow you to move the axle under the spring and should give about 3-4 inches of lift. The vehicle i am wanting to lift is a jeep CJ7. I have searched the web and can only find minimal information. Does anyone know where i can find these "flip kits" for a jeep??

I bought a superlift 4 inch block kit for my Dodge. It was very easy to install. The kit gives new u-bolts and you just jack the back up, loosen the old u-bolts, insert the blocks (mine were 4 inch) and install and tighten the new longer u-bolts.

Any 4x4 store near you should be able to get you the correct kit for your vehicle. It cost me about $110.00 and I did the work myself. It would probably be another $150.00 for them to have done it. Hope that helps.

did you have to replace your shocks?? what about brake lines and transfer case?? thanks for the info.

Yes. I needed to buy 4 inch longer shocks because the stock units would "top out" over bumps.

The lines were plenty long, but I think that Dodges are known for having long lines because everyone lifts them. Transfer case was no prob.

I just did a 2 inch leveling kit on the front to fit the 35 inch tires. (good to pull out of muddy launches...) and I wanted to keep the rear up in the air for carrying heavy loads. (I haul gravel pretty regular.)

Doing an axle over on a CJ is possible but you may run into the problems you mentioned. Brake lines, shocks not to mention your drive shafts may need to be changed (longer). The other issue you may run into is steering linkage such as the drag link hitting the springs because of the new location of the knuckles. Check out the forums at www.jpmagazine.com you'll find alot better info, possibly for your exact year Jeep. The dodge above already started out as spring over so the block lift wont work in your case.

I rebuilt a CJ7 about 20 years ago with a small block 350 Chevy with 39" Super Swampers. They did not make anything as far as a kit back when I did this. You can do it with parts and pieces from other kits. New U bolts had custom made, thou to handle the stress of 385hp. You will have to extend both drive shafts. You will have to extend steering shaft as well. I would strongly suggest you install a front sway bar as well it helps out with the bigger tires. If you are ony looking for 3" lift just put a body lift on it. If my memory is correct you can put 35" tires witha 3" body lift. Hope this helps, it brought up some good times for me.

Built not bought, gives a great sense of pride in ownership, and you'll know how to fix it, spend the money on tools rather then pay someone to make it cause they'll just keep making it every time you beat on it......build it yourself means you can fix it yourself..... it's not that big of a project but if you feel overwhelmed p.m. and I'll steer you straight....a springover is a money saver, i'm about to do my fj 60 with a small block swap to boot, it's all about what you want but nothing replaces knowing every bolt on your rig you turned yourself.......if you think you can't you won't.......don't forget about brake lines driveshaft angles spring perches etcetc the list goes on and on but there's only so much............as i said before pm for more info......
