Don't know of a Ford 6.8. In recent years there's the old venerable 7.3 (has great proven longevity but doesn't have quite the pull of the latest motors), the 6.0 (which had some teething issues in the first 1-2 years of production), and the current 6.4 (which is very stout but suffer a bit in fuel economy like all the latest generation diesels due to EPA requirements.)
The upcoming motor is the 6.7 and will be another year or two before we can summise it's longevity/reliability but I'm sure it will be the strongest stump puller across all 3/4 or 1 ton trucks currently on the market (someone will one-up it one day though.)
The 6.8L is the gas V10. Durability tested to medium truck standards. Includes things like cast stainless exhaust manifolds. Great engine, but plan on buying gas, and more gas....

D'oh, I've become a diesel snob
Yes, the V10 has been around for awhile has a decent reputation. However I believe Ford's upcoming new gas V8 may replace it.
dam that 2011 450 is pretty. i love the rear fenders, just like the smaller fenders on the dually ram. theose 450s are so nice. i saw a blue harley edition with the flames on the side the other day, omg thats my future ride. a burgundy 450 harley, with a red 34 YF trip 300 vrods. sign me up for that.
I have a feeling the new V8 6.7lt will be a over engineered, Urea drinking, problem, and AGAIN the Public will be the BETA TESTERS .
Good luck FMco.

I did read that the new V8 Gas will be made larger to replace the V10. I happen to have the V10 and love that truck. I have had it 8 years and 185,000. It runs great and has very little problems outside of the ordinary. I can see why some people like the diesel but in my oinion, you really have to be pulling almost every day to justify the extra expence of the motor and maintainance. My V10 is the best motor I have ever owned. I think it could have another 100,000+ in her.

I agree, not enough people are paying attention to the urea requirements on the new generation diesels.
I love my 08 F450 and if it got 20 mpg towing, I'd love it even more!

Sucks gas and hauls ass!
One step ahead and you are a genius, two steps ahead and you are a misfit.

We have a guy here in town [ Mike W. ] and he is a Ranch forman and runs a V10 Ford , we say they should make Ford commercials on Mike. He HAMMERS the snot out of his work truck [ The one he had when I moved here in 94 was a F250 w/a 351]
The only thing he has done to the truck besides normal Maint. and Tires is a Fuel pump.
It does have a VERY narrow sweet spot for MPG but is a pulling working beast.

6.0 is a headbolt bomb, the 6.8gas v10 is powerful but after driving it with heavy loads in refinery work. Its a good thing they let us fill up in refinery? We were getting under 10mpg average. the 6.4 that replaced the 6.0 diesel gets bad mpg also. Find a 2003 or older 7.3 tune it up a litle maybe 150 to 200 hp extra for very little money and watch your mpg go from 17 to low 20s. Why would you want anything else but a 7.3 in a ford PU?????
I have the V10 and love it. It isn't a daily driver, nor do I use it a lot. If I was using it to haul every day, I would have bought a diesel. For me it is great. I had an F250 4X4 years ago with the 360. My V10 gets better mileage.
I wish they would quit making trucks bigger and more square. Im a chevy guy, so i didnt like the fords when they went more square a few years ago.....then came 07 and chevy went to big square headlights, and a big square front end.....
My fiance asked why i bought a used 2006 silverado instead of new.....well the savings where tremendous and i hate square trucks
Good luck with the new fords, im sure lots of folks will buy them, which means lots of folks for me to laugh at, but its ok because they do it back to me im sure
Ahhh, lovin' my '03 7.3 diesel!
Only have 120,000 miles with standard maintenance, hope to get 300,000 on her.
I don't have the bells & whistles that the newer ones do, but they are worthless if your engine takes a crap.
I resisted buying an '08, I'll keep the '03 until a better motor is tried and proven by the masses.
Seen it at the Tampa Car SHow....Very Nice truck....The thing I hate is the Exhuast System. It's about 6' long & 1-2' round. It needs Diesel Exhuast Fluid. And alot more BS.......If I get 1 im ripping all that crap out & throwing a MBRP Turbo Back with no Cats or mufflers.
Anyone who's putting up with the terrible mileage on the '08+ Ford super duty's with the 6.4 diesel needs to google Spartan Diesel Technologies. My '09 F250 is Spartan tuned and the DPF and DOC filters have been replaced with a straight exhaust. Not only am I now putting a hair over 500HP/950TQ to the rear wheels, I can easily pull 23 MPG on the highway at 75 MPH with EGT's under 625 degrees. With the regenerations deleted I am also no longer pumping diesel fuel into the crankcase and diluting my oil. I am a happy camper considering that the best the truck saw stock was about 15.5 MPG highway. The stock 2010 super duty trucks will suffer the same problems in stock form, fuel hogs with expensive exhaust components that ultimately pump fuel into the crankcase, diluting the oil and causing premature wear.
Clean diesel technology my arse, lets blow some smoke and use half the fuel...ie: less natural resource usage.

X2, especially the last sentence.
I will leave my 08 350 tuned in my driveway (won't buy a new one), I will never forget how bad my driveway loaded up with gray smoke at idle. Under normal driving conditions my tuned 6.4l blows NO smoke, and gets over double the fuel economy. Until a new diesel comes along hitting 20 + mpg, I wont be buying it, that defeats my reasoning for buying my last 3 diesel trucks.

How much did it cost to delete the Regen? Can you run Veggie Oil/Bio in it with out having the dash light up like a christmas tree?
I am running 100% Veggie Oil in my 7.3L. Only negative effect I got was about 15-20% decrease in HP. Still worth it when it costs us $.50 a gal (filters, chemicals, etc..)
