Default Trailer Axle Broke Off!

This happened a few months ago coming out of the driveway. We had seen it the week before, and planned on fixing it, so on the way to my friends shop, this happened. I guess it was time.

Trailer is less than 4 years old. Rinsed off every trip, on average 1-2 month.

That's scary! Glad it happened in the driveway and not on US#1.

Poof...like that.

It's not my boat. It's my GF's Dad's. We borrowed it for a couple weekends, noticed the rust, decided I would replace it for him. First we had to get back from Ocala. Parked it overnight, left for the shop, and it broke. She's all fixed up now. New axle, new springs, few new tires, new disc brakes, new lights, master cylinder, brake lines, etc.

I did not poke and proud the metal when I saw it, if I had I don't think for a second I would have trailered it down 95. How it made it back I have no idea!

Don't wanna start any bashing here, but for a 4 yr. old trailer, that thing looks like crap....real safe with those brakes. Are you sure that thing was flushed regularly? What brand??

I agree. I can say it was flushed every time I used it. I can say it was done every time the boat was taken out. Those brakes were shot, I never had a problem stopping it with my truck though. The new disc brakes are awesome! I forget what brand trailer, but I will find out, and let you know.

WOW!!...The same thing happened to my rear axle last season in the Driveway just before I hooked up to drop her in. I replaced that one, and then at the end of last season as I was hauling her up the ramp, the front axle broke in the same exact place as that....

I flush my trailer every time, I'm starting to wonder if parking the trailer over grass has anything to do with it.

Do I see rusted welds in the first picture or is that cold galvi sprayed over rust perhaps?

That almost looks as if the water was trapped in the axle and could not drain....hard to believe it's only 4 years old...maybe a subpar galvanizing job at the factory.....
BTW for that last pic....I have found that coating the leaf springs with marine wheel bearing grease spraying Corrosion X HD really does result in less corrosion...comparing my trailer to my neighbors (hers was new in 05....my old one was re-done in 04) they go the salt the same amount (not much both are moored boats) but mine looks much better....
