My coworker is on his 3rd engine in an F150 @ 160k miles... another went through 3 F350 diesels on lemon laws.. I'm scared of fords
hm, my farther has 240k on his 02 f150. every 3,000 miles he changes his oil. he never beats on it. takes off slow. he tows his small bass boat, his snowmobile trailer throughout the winter. hes had to tow his 24' camper a couple of times with it as well. also, he hasnt had any major issues at all. only normal things like brakes and and things of that nature. sounds like your friend either has bad luck or doesnt maintain his stuff or drives it hard. what year was the f-150?
Ford F 150 all the way !
Better truck.
Way more to chose from = lower purchase price.
More after market.
More repair outlets/parts= lower repair cost.
Great service history.
Lower Ins. cost.
Lower cost per mile.
That is generally true the only exemption is if you tow.
These "my truck is better than yours" threads are typically a major waste of time and electrons. Everyone spouting off extremely anecdotal opinion with absolutely no empirical data. Do a modicum of research, and you will find Toyota trucks are average / slightly above average in reliability among competitors. Nissan generally below average. Dodge average. GM & Ford average to above average. I glean MY data from automotive trade publications such as Fleet Central, Fleet Management, Automotive Digest Weekly, AIN, etc. You too will discover that the common misconceptions that somehow Japanese vehicles are always superior are generally unfounded.
As for me; I own an automotive-industrial equipment distribution and manufacturing company. We're the largest of our sector in the nation. I would choose the Ford based on quality / reliability historical data, and the plain fact that Ford is a domestic manufacturer. Toyota is a Japanese company. I choose to support American manufacturing and American industry. My company (did I mention we're the largest in the country?) only sells products made in America, by American manufacturers.
It matters whom we support. I provide good solid jobs for Americans. Who do you support?
I like Dieselpusher. A lot.
As a retired Ford guy, thanks for buying American and Ford at that.
Now get ready for the "Toyota is American", and "I'm teaching american business they better shape up" crews.
I drive an '07 double cab 2wd Tacoma, and absolutely love it. Highway mileage is about 21 mpg and I usually drive 80-85 mph. I occasionally pull a small trailer and the Tacoma has no problems there, except for the ridiculous right-side "Objects are Closer Than They Appear" mirror. The mirror makes backing up tricky on that side. That being said, I think I would also love an F150. They look great, and there must be a reason why they sell so well year after year.
The Tacoma is built in CA. I think the engines are built in San Antonio, but not 100% certain. Yes, Toyota is Japanese-owned, so a small percentage of the purchase price goes to Japan rather than staying in the US. I think supporting American manufacturers is important, but I'm not a purist about it. It's not as if we don't all buy foreign-produced products every day (gas, clothing, consumer goods, etc.).

-mike.
It was an 2000-ish. He sold his F150 this weekend and bought a diesel GMC 2500
The F350's was another guy.
I dont doubt that there are F150's that run forever... but if there is that much inconsistency then its hard to take the risk, IMHO. Same thing applies to VW. I have a few friends who have had horrendious issues with VW's... a Jetta that had to have the entire brake system replaced at 20k miles... and repainted at 20k because the paint, literally, fell off.
Honda, Toyota, you just don't hear about many issues with those brands. They consistently produce reliable vehicles

Electrons are never wasted! You just pay for the shipping and handling
